Sample Preparation for Electron Microscopy

To exploit the full potential of the HOLO-TEM facility, which enables the development of advanced electron microscopy methodologies for the study of organic and biological matter on a nanoscopic scale, we set up a laboratory dedicated to the preparation of radiation-sensitive samples.
FIB/SEM has a unique possibility to couple simultaneous investigation of sample morphology, cell surface and subsurface characteristics and cell ultrastructure investigation with in situ sample manipulation, providing preliminary data and /or sample preparation prior to HOLO-TEM sample investigation. This facility  supports the  HOLO-TEM infrastructure and  allows users to access to state-of-the-art preparation facility for biological samples in order to perform accurate TEM investigations, without the need for applying to other facilities for the sample preparation, which could also create some difficulties (transport and sample preservation) for samples to be inspected by means of Cryo-EM.
